Honkpo, Grundy lead Men's Outdoor Track and Field at Wooster Invitational

WOOSTER — The Otterbein men's outdoor track and field team achieved several top finishes across both running and field events at the two-day Wooster Invitational on Friday and Saturday highlighted by first-place performances from sophomore Richmond Honkpo in long jump and junior Collin Grundy in the javelin.

The Basics
  • Venue: John P. Papp Stadium - Wooster, Ohio
  • The invitational consisted of a mix of NCAA Division II and III teams.
  • Otterbein finished in fifth place among nine teams with 74 points. John Carroll finished first with 132.5 points followed by Case Western Reserve in second with 110.5 points and Walsh in third with 97 points.

Otterbein's Top Performers - Running Events
  • 110m Hurdles - In second was sophomore Izaac Swope with a time of 15.28 seconds, and in fourth was sophomore Cam Smart in 15.56 seconds. 
  • 400m Hurdles - Smart finished second in 56.10 seconds.
  • 1500m - Sophomore Mitch Green placed third in 4:00.06. In eighth was junior Chase Jackson in 4:05.03, and in ninth was junior Gavin Kelly in 4:07.18. 
  • 4x400m relay - Finishing in fourth was the team of freshmen Jack Van Fossen and Marquez Whitehead, Smart and sophomore Christian Barker in 3:29.12. 
  • 800m - In fourth place was Green in 1:58.19, and in ninth was junior Alec Spangler in 2:02.08.
Otterbein's Top Performers - Field Events
  • Javelin - Grundy threw a mark of 49.43m to secure a first-place finish. 
  • Long Jump - Honkpo won the event, jumping a mark of 7.25m. In sixth was freshman Joab Bockstoce, jumping a 6.33m mark. 
  • High Jump - Sophomore Gabe Scialdone placed fourth with a mark of 1.82m.
  • Pole Vault - Finishing in seventh was junior Brady Williams, clearing a height of 4.14m.

All-Time Otterbein Rankings: 

  • Honkpo is the all-time record holder in long jump (7.40m) set in the 2024 season, and junior Khalil Jones ranks sixth (7.11m, 2023). 
  • Graduate student Nick Agerter ranks fifth all-time in pole vault (4.80m, 2024).
  • Barker is tied for second all-time in the 200m (21.59 seconds, 2025).
  • Swope ranks 10th all-time in the 110m hurdles (14.97 seconds, 2024).
  • Jackson ranks 10th all-time in the 10,000m (31:29.79, 2025).
  • Sophomore Jack Craigo ranks 10th all-time in the decathlon with 3,632 points set in the 2024 season.
