Esports has strong showing in Week 2

WESTERVILLE – In their second week of fall competition, the Otterbein University esports team had its Overwatch, Smash and Rainbow Six teams in action.

On Monday, the Overwatch team dropped a 3-0 loss to Saint Xavier University. Despite the final score, the Cardinals showed a lot of fight. Senior Syd Gunn was a key player, helping to push the second map all the way to the end, while senior Ben Sommer led the team to their first point of the season on the third map.

In their match against Cedarville University on Thursday, the Smash team fell 2-0. Showing improvement from week one, Josh Hill (No_Gas) was a standout player, taking three stocks for the team throughout the series.

The Rainbow Six Siege team kicked off their season in impressive fashion at the Midwest Rainbow Six Qualifiers, finishing the week with a 5-1 record. On Thursday, the team started strong with a dominant 7-1 win over Carbon Crusaders. Sophomore captain Michael Huffman (Mike67.OTTER) led the way with 12 eliminations. In their next game, Otterbein kept the momentum rolling with a 7-0 shutout against The University of Olivet. Thanks to a stellar performance from freshman Landon Chalfant (nastee.OTTER), the Cardinals rolled past the Comets after Chalfant's KDA of 12/1/4. Otterbein wrapped up the day with a 7-2 victory over Michigan State University, with Huffman once again leading the charge with 11 eliminations.

The team continued to perform well on Saturday. They started with a decisive 7-1 win against Murray State University, powered by TroyJackson's (Polumalu) 12/2/2 KDA. Although they fell 7-2 to the nationally recognized Kettering University, they bounced back with a 7-2 win over Buena Vista University. Freshman Ben Ronk (Neb.OTTER) was a top performer in that final match, going 9/5/2.

All three teams will continue to compete this week in their respective schedules.
