Esports continues fall schedule

WESTERVILLE – Over the week, the Otterbein University esports team showed significant competitive growth and secured key season milestones. The highlight was a decisive 2-1 series victory for the Valorant squad, while the Rainbow Six Siege team successfully launched its debut in the highly competitive Division 2, forcing two games into overtime.

Additionally, the Overwatch team secured its first map win of the season and Super Smash Bros. marked progress by narrowing the stock deficit against a tough opponent.

Otterbein Overwatch scored their first map win of the season, but fell 3-1 to Baldwin Wallace on Monday. Seniors Aiden Bruntz and Ben Sommer split time on tank. After falling in the first two maps, the Cardinals battled back on their map choice. The senior pair coordinated a decisive team wipe to help Otterbein start a small comeback, but BW won in the fourth.

In their match against Baldwin Wallace University on Thursday, Smash fell 2-0. They lost by a margin of two stocks and five stocks, and have been inching closer to taking their first win. Junior Seth Roy (Trshple) led the way for the Cardinals with six total stocks.

Valorant took on Ohio Wesleyan University on Friday. They won game one on Ascent 13-7 and lost the next map 13-7. On map three, they went to Haven and won 13-6 to take the series, 2-1. Freshman Landon Chalfant (nastee) was a difference maker and in game three had a K/D of 26/10.

The Rainbow Six Siege team started off their regular season with a big jump from Division 7 last year to Division 7 this year. Their first game came against Montana State University. In game one, they won in a thrilling overtime game 8-7. Game two also went to overtime, but this time it went the way of Montana State 8-6. In game three, Montana State pulled away and won 7-3. Sophomore Michael Huffman (Mike.67Otter) led the way for the Cardinals with a 40/17 K/D.
