A dependable running back who embodied the toughness of Otterbein football during the early 1970s, Steven Schnarr established himself as one of the premier rushers in program history. Through a combination of durability, work ethic, and consistent production, Schnarr helped lead the Cardinals on the field while earning recognition as one of the Ohio Athletic Conference's top offensive players.

A four-year contributor from 1971-74, Schnarr finished his career with 1,437 rushing yards on 333 carries, averaging 4.3 yards per attempt while scoring 13 touchdowns. At a time when physical, run-oriented football defined the college game, he served as the centerpiece of the Cardinal offense and proved capable of carrying the load against some of the toughest competition in the conference.

Schnarr's finest season came as a senior in 1974. He rushed for 756 yards and 10 touchdowns, earning First Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors and solidifying his place among the league's elite running backs. His senior campaign included one of the greatest individual performances in school history when he rushed for 222 yards in the final game of his career, setting an Otterbein single-game record that stood as a benchmark for future generations. By the time he graduated in 1975, Schnarr held three school records, including single-season rushing attempts (161), rushing yards in a game (222), and carries in a game (35).

His accomplishments earned him an invitation to the prestigious Division III All-Ohio Shrine Bowl following his senior season, where he represented Otterbein alongside many of the state's top collegiate players. While he contributed 39 rushing yards in the contest, coaches and teammates particularly praised his blocking, showcasing the selfless approach and team-first mentality that defined his playing career.

Following graduation, Schnarr's football journey continued at the professional level. He spent time with the Buffalo Bills organization in 1975, contributing on special teams before making it to the final round of roster cuts prior to the 1976 season. Reaching that level was a testament to his talent, determination, and the respect he earned throughout his collegiate career.
