Men's Soccer Fights Wilmington to Draw

Box Score

WESTERVILLE, OHIO - Otterbein men's soccer (3-13-2, 1-5-2 OAC) played Wilmington (3-10-4, 1-6-1 OAC) to a scoreless tie Wednesday afternoon at Clements Field.

Otterbein freshman keeper Kyle Ripma, making his first career start, was tested by the Quakers early on but came up with four first-half saves to keep the game scoreless.

Wilmington held a slim 6-5 shot advantage over the first 45 minutes.

Both sides battled and looked for opportunities in the second half, and the Cardinals almost found a goal when an angled shot from freshman Evan Fallon went just wide left.

The game would head to overtime, and neither of the ten-minute overtime sessions would be enough to break the tie.

The Quakers out-shot Otterbein 15-10, and also held a 7-3 edge on corner kicks.

Ripma came up with seven saves for Otterbein.

Seniors Byron Horton and Mike Towsend played their last match on Clements Field, and were honored during pre-game as part of Senior Day.

Otterbein is stil in contention to grab the last spot of the six-team conference tournament, beginning next week, but will need some help.

The Cards will need Baldwin-Wallace to drop both of its remaining contests, Muskingum to lose its final match, and to have the edge in any tie-breaker scenarios with the Muskies.
