Men's Lacrosse Turns Back Centre 14-7

GAHANNA, OHIO – The Otterbein University men’s lacrosse team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 14-7 victory over Centre College (KY) Saturday afternoon at Gahanna Lincoln High School.

Otterbein stood in control at 4-1 with 3:03 remaining in the opening period after a goal from freshman Andrew Donatelli, but Centre responded to draw within 4-3 midway through the second quarter.

Ahead 5-4, the Cardinals used goals from Pat Teynor and Adam McGrath in the last 91 seconds of the half to take a 7-4 advantage into halftime.

Otterbein dominated the third quarter, scoring all six goals in the frame to bust open a 13-4 lead entering the final 15 minutes.

The Cards would remain in control and eventually play to the 14-7 victory.

Sophomore Alex Dowell led Otterbein with three goals and one assists, while Donatelli, Teynor, Graham Shippy, Adam McGrath, and Eric Garris all tallied two scores a piece.

Freshman Shane Hasty also found the back of the net as part of the third quarter scoring for his first career goal.

The Cards held a commanding 68-27 shot advantage, and won 17 of the 24 face-offs. The Cards were successful on 17 of 23 clear attempts, and limited Centre to just a 14 for 33 output on clears.

Sophomore goalkeeper Adam Hatchard came up with five saves in the cage for Otterbein, while Clayton Brown stopped 24 shots for the Colonels.

The Cards next travel to Newport News, Virginia for competition against host Christopher Newport University and Goucher College (MD). Otterbein opens against Newport March 23 before battling Goucher on March 25. Both games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
