Adrian Second-Half Run Downs Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Otterbein University men’s lacrosse team dropped to 5-5 on the season Wednesday with a 19-9 loss to visiting Adrian College at Memorial Stadium.

The Bulldogs (9-2) struck early by scoring three goals in the first seven minutes, but the Cards would eventually find the back of the net with a goal from sophomore Alex Dowell at the 3:37 mark.

Otterbein’s Adam McGrath would score a man-up goal less than a minute later off an assist from Dowell, and the Cards ended the first period down 3-2.

Adrian tallied the first goal of the second frame, but sophomore Andrew Donatelli brought the deficit back to one with a goal at the 11:32 mark after a nice feed from McGrath.

Otterbein remained close as they trailed 6-4 later in the period, but the Bulldogs would rattle off four goals to end the half, two coming in the final 20 seconds, to take an 10-4 advantage into the break.

Graham Shippy started the second half off with a goal for Otterbein, but the Bulldogs embarked on a run of eight consecutive scores to blow open the contest and lead 18-5 with 12:21 to go in the fourth.

The Cards found some late scores in the final five minutes, two coming from freshman Eric Garris, but Adrian would eventually earn the 19-9 victory.

Shippy finished with three goals for the Tan and Cardinal while freshman Mikey O'Neal assisted on three scores.

T.J. Cook registered four goals for the Bulldogs while Josh Maluta distributed an impressive seven assists.

Adrian held a 56-20 shot advantage, and picked up 50 ground balls compared to just 24 for Otterbein.

The Bulldogs won 21 of the 32 faceoffs, with Mitch Barnard victorious on 18 of his 24 attempts.

The Cardinals return to action Saturday afternoon, hitting the road to take on Albion College (MI). Starting time is set for 2 p.m.
