WESTERVILLE, OHIO—The Otterbein University women’s tennis team closes out Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play this week with two matches at home.
The Cardinals, 12-7 overall, enter the week sitting third in the OAC at 5-2 behind Ohio Northern University (17-5, 7-0) and Baldwin-Wallace College (13-7, 6-1).
Otterbein is scheduled to host Baldwin-Wallace, 3:30 p.m., Wednesday and Marietta College, 1 p.m., Saturday. Marietta, 5-8 overall, shares sixth place in the OAC with Wilmington, each 2-4.
The team played to a split last week, winning 9-0 at Heidelberg and dropping a tight 6-3 decision at Ohio Northern in a match which was decided by four points. The Polar Bears won second singles and first doubles in tie-breakers, each by a 7-5 score.
Senior Kylie Hammons and freshman Julie Stroyne kept their OAC winning streaks alive, each improving to 7-0 in singles play. Hammons won at No. 4 against Ohio Northern and No. 3 at Heidelberg. Stroyne won at No. 1 in both matches.
The OAC tournament is scheduled to begin with the quarterfinals on May 3. Otterbein advanced to the championship match of the OAC tournament last season, losing a close 5-4 decision to Baldwin-Wallace in the final.
