Otterbein Wraps Up Regular Season at Home

WESTERVILLE, OHIO—The Otterbein University women’s tennis team closes out Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play this week with two matches at home.

The Cardinals, 12-7 overall, enter the week sitting third in the OAC at 5-2 behind Ohio Northern University (17-5, 7-0) and Baldwin-Wallace College (13-7, 6-1).

Otterbein is scheduled to host Baldwin-Wallace, 3:30 p.m., Wednesday and Marietta College, 1 p.m., Saturday. Marietta, 5-8 overall, shares sixth place in the OAC with Wilmington, each 2-4.

The team played to a split last week, winning 9-0 at Heidelberg and dropping a tight 6-3 decision at Ohio Northern in a match which was decided by four points. The Polar Bears won second singles and first doubles in tie-breakers, each by a 7-5 score.

Senior Kylie Hammons and freshman Julie Stroyne kept their OAC winning streaks alive, each improving to 7-0 in singles play. Hammons won at No. 4 against Ohio Northern and No. 3 at Heidelberg. Stroyne won at No. 1 in both matches.

The OAC tournament is scheduled to begin with the quarterfinals on May 3. Otterbein advanced to the championship match of the OAC tournament last season, losing a close 5-4 decision to Baldwin-Wallace in the final.
