Four from women's tennis named All-OAC

WESTERVILLE – Highlighted by two First Team selections, four members from the Otterbein University women's tennis team earned All-OAC honors, as announced on Thursday morning.

Breanna Ball, Taryn Simmers, Niya Bell and Caitlin Pennington were all recognized following a season where the Cardinals placed second in the OAC regular season standings and were the runners-up in the OAC Tournament Championship match.

Simmers and Ball, both juniors, earned First Team status for their first all-conference honor. Simmers spent most of the season at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles, going 3-1 in conference play in singles action. Her 6-4, 7-5 victory in the OAC Semifinals secured the win for the Cardinals over Capital. Ball locked down the No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles spots this season, turning in a stellar 3-1 record in the OAC in doubles play.

Bell was named a Second Team honoree as Simmers' doubles partner and competed at No. 3 singles. The sophomore went 2-2 in conference matches in singles. Pennington rounds out the selections with an Honorable Mention accolade. Representing Otterbein at No. 3 doubles and No. 4 singles, she was 2-2 in doubles play and 3-1 in singles matches in the OAC.

On Tuesday, the quartet were all named to the CSC Academic All-District Team, which celebrates athletes who excel on the court and in the classroom.
