WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Otterbein University women’s tennis team claimed a 6-3 victory over Baldwin-Wallace College Saturday afternoon in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opener for both teams.
The Cardinals improve to 4-7 overall, 1-0 in the OAC. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets fall to 0-1 in the conference, 4-8 overall.
Otterbein got off to a strong start by claiming first and second doubles. Junior Taylor Jordan and sophomore Julie Stroyne won their matchup 8-1, while senior Cassie Brungarth and sophomore Alana Cheplowitz earned an 8-2 victory in their match.
The Cardinals went on to win four of six in singles competition en route to their win.
Stroyne, the reigning OAC Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week, took first singles in straight sets (6-2, 6-1).
Jordan needed a little more time to earn her win in second singles. After losing the first set 7-6 (7-4 tiebreak), she rebounded to win the second set 7-6 (7-5 tiebreak), and earned the victory by winning the tiebreaker.
Senior Christine Kuester won fifth singles (6-3, 6-1), while Krummel earned the victory in sixth singles (3-6, 7-5, 6-0).
The Cardinals will return to action this Saturday, March 31, when they head to Alliance to take on the University of Mount Union in an OAC contest. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
