Women's Tennis Falls at John Carroll

MEDINA, OHIO – The Otterbein University women’s tennis team lost to John Carroll University 5-4 in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) match Saturday afternoon.

The loss drops the Cardinals to 2-2 in the OAC, 5-9 overall. Meanwhile, the Blue Streaks move to 8-3 overall, 3-1 in the OAC.

Otterbein got off to a fast start when they claimed all three doubles matchups.

The combination of sophomore Julie Stroyne and junior Taylor Jordan gave the Cardinals an early lead with an 8-4 win at first doubles.

Sophomore Alana Cheplowitz and senior Cassie Brungarth claimed second doubles 8-6, while the freshman duo of Emily Harper and Kelsey Leachko took third doubles 8-6.

But the Blue Streaks won five of the six singles matchups to earn the victory.

Stroyne notched the lone singles win for the Cardinals at first singles. She defeated Maria Ciccolini of John Carroll in straight sets (6-3, 6-1).

The Cardinals return to the courts this Tuesday, April 17, when they travel to take on Marietta College. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
