UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OHIO – The Cardinals were swept by John Carroll University; losing 2-1 and 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Bracken Field.
Otterbein University falls to 19-9 overall, and 6-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Meanwhile, the Blue Streaks move to 5-5 in the OAC, 20-10 overall.
Otterbein struggled offensively on the day. The Cardinals only managed one run on six hits in game one, and failed to tally a hit in their game two loss.
Otterbein and John Carroll played to a scoreless tie through four innings in game one. The Cardinals broke the scoreless tie when sophomore Laura Basford scored from second base on an error by the Blue Streak second baseman.
John Carroll responded in the sixth a run on three hits to tie the game up. The Blue Streaks then clinched the victory on a bases loaded walk-off walk in the seventh inning.
Freshman Maggie Zych led Otterbein at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance.
Sophomore Chelsea Burns (3-3) took the loss for the Cardinals. She struck out two in an inning of relief of sophomore starter Kelsey Long.
In game two, John Carroll pitcher Brittany Danilov no-hit the Cardinals en route to their 2-0 win.
Senior Natalie Zwicker (5-1) suffered the loss for Otterbein on the mound. She allowed two runs on four hits in three innings.
The Cardinals return to action Tuesday when they travel to take on Marietta College (17-13, 5-7) for an OAC doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled to take place at 3:30 p.m.
