WESTERVILLE, OHIO – Otterbein University baseball suffered a pair of losses Tuesday afternoon, falling 8-0 and 5-0 to No. 1 ranked Marietta College at Fishbaugh Field.

The Cardinals have now dropped seven games in a row, falling to 16-16 on the season and 3-9 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play. The Pioneers, ranked atop the latest D3Baseball.com and ABCA national polls, improve to 24-4 overall and 11-1 in the OAC.

Marietta took an early 1-0 lead in game one after an Otterbein fielding error, and added a second run in the third frame as a result of a solo home run.

Otterbein senior Dustin Reuter continued to battle on the mound, but the Pioneers clicked offensively with three runs in the fifth before producing three more insurance runs in the final inning.

Reuter allowed four earned runs and struck out four over his five innings of work, but fell to 6-4 on the season in the process. Marietta hurler Austin Blaski (7-1) was steady on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings of scoreless work.

Otterbein shortstop Sean Kettering went 2 for 3 at the plate in the opening game, while Marietta junior Aaron Hopper delivered a 3 for 4 performance with three RBI and 3 runs scored.

The Pioneers used a slow but steady offensive effort in game two, tallying three runs over the first five innings and eventually taking the 3-0 lead into the seventh inning.

Marietta added two more runs in a seventh inning that featured a pair of Cardinal throwing errors, and Otterbein was unable to post any runs the remainder of the way en route to the sweep.

Sophomore Thomas Linder hit successfully in each of the two games on the day, pushing his current hitting streak to 20 games.

The Cardinals will look to get back into the win column Saturday afternoon at Muskingum. First pitch from New Concord is scheduled for 1 p.m.
