Women's Tennis Shuts Down Marietta

Match Results

MARIETTA, OHIO – The Otterbein University women’s tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over Marietta College in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) match.

The Cardinals improve to 3-2 in the OAC, 6-9 overall. Meanwhile, the Pioneers fall to 0-9 overall, 0-5 in the OAC.

Otterbein got off to a fast start against Marietta after taking all three doubles matchups.

The Cardinal combination of junior Taylor Jordan and sophomore Julie Stroyne claimed first doubles 8-0. Meanwhile the freshmen combination of Emily Harper and Kelsey Leachko won second doubles (8-1) and seniors Cassie Brungarth and Christine Kuester took third doubles (8-0).

Otterbein continued their dominance over the Pioneers in singles competition. The Cardinals claimed straight set wins in all six singles matchups.

Stroyne continued her solid 2012 campaign with a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles, while her doubles teammate Jordan claimed a 6-1, 6-4 victory in second singles.

Brungarth earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at third singles, and fellow senior Angela Sammons notched a win of her own at fourth singles (6-0, 6-2).

Rounding out Otterbein’s dominant performance were freshmen Emma Krummel and Leachko. Krummel earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at fifth singles while Leachko cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win in sixth singles.

The Cardinals return home to Westerville to take on Muskingum University this Friday, April 20. The OAC match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
