WOOSTER, OHIO – The Cardinals split a non-conference doubleheader with the College of Wooster Thursday afternoon, dropping game one 3-1 before winning the second game 3-1.

Otterbein University moves to 21-11 overall, while the Scots go to 19-11 this season.

The Cardinals earned a come-from-behind victory in their game two 3-1 win.

Trailing 1-0 entering the sixth, Otterbein tied the game when sophomore Maggie McMahan hit a two-out single to score freshman Maggie Zych from third base. Zych, who reached on a single, stole second and third to put herself in scoring position.

The Cardinals then capitalized on a couple of errors by the Scots to take the lead in the seventh.

Sophomore Laura Basford reached on an error by the first baseman, and scored on an error by the Wooster shortstop on a ball hit by senior Casey Clarridge.

Otterbein tacked on an insurance run when freshman Kayla Woodard knocked in Clarridge with an RBI single to center field to make the score 3-1.

McMahan (5-4) went the distance on the mound, limiting the Scots to one run on three hits and struck out four. She also held Wooster hitless in 2.2 innings in relief in game one.

McMahan also had a great game at the plate to go with her prowess on the mound. The Raymond native went 3-for-3 with an RBI in game two.

In their 3-1 game one loss, the Cardinals surrendered all three of the Scots runs in the fourth inning. Wooster tallied three runs on three hits, including a daring steal of home plate.

Otterbein got on the board in the seventh when freshman Kristen Lakes knocked in Zych on a two-out double to make the score 3-1.

Sophomore Kelsey Long (8-3) took the loss for the Cardinals. She allowed all three runs on five hits while striking out one.

Otterbein will resume their Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) schedule when they host Muskingum University (17-15, 6-6 OAC) Saturday, April 21, for a pivotal doubleheader. The Cardinals are currently tied with John Carroll for second place in the OAC at 7-5. First pitch of game one is scheduled to take place at 1 p.m.
