Women's Tennis Posts Shutout

WESTERVILLE, OHIO -- The Otterbein University women’s tennis team shutout Muskingum University 9-0 in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) match Friday afternoon.

Otterbein improves to 4-2 in the OAC, 7-9 overall. Meanwhile, the Muskies fall to 4-8 overall, 1-6 in the conference.

Sophomore Julie Stroyne had a flawless afternoon. She dominated her opponent in first singles (6-0, 6-0) and teamed with junior Taylor Jordan to pick up an impressive 8-0 victory at first doubles.

Jordan also looked strong at second singles. She picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win to finish her afternoon.

Also picking up two wins was freshman Kelsey Leachko. She teamed with classmate Emily Harper for a 8-2 win at second doubles and earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at fifth singles for the Cardinals.

Seniors Cassie Brungarth and Angela Sammons, and sophomore Rebecca Freitag also claimed singles wins for Otterbein. Brungarth took third singles (6-0, 6-4), Sammons won fourth (6-0, 6-0), while Freitag earned the win at sixth (6-0, 6-1).

Rounding out the Cardinal winners were freshman Emma Krummel and senior Christine Kuester, who teamed up to win third doubles 8-2.

Otterbein returns to action this Wednesday, April 25, when they travel to Tiffin to take on Heidelberg University. The match is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
