WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Cardinals picked up their second split in as many days, losing 4-3 to Ohio Wesleyan University before claiming a 7-1 win in the nightcap at Rike Field.

Otterbein University moves to 23-13 overall after winning one of two. Meanwhile, the Battling Bishops stand at 13-17.

The duo of sophomore Laura Basford and senior Casey Clarridge at the top of the batting order gave Ohio Wesleyan fits in the Cardinals 7-1 game two win.

The pair reached base six out of a possible seven tries and stole four bases apiece. Both also contributed two runs scored and an RBI each.

Junior Erin Carpenter became one of the beneficiaries of their strong game. She finished the game 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs to help lead the Otterbein to the victory.

Sophomore pitcher Kelsey Long (9-4) also benefited from the offensive production. She earned the win while limiting the Bishops to just one run on seven hits. She also struck out two and only walked one batter.

The Bishops battled from behind in their 4-3 game one win over the Cardinals.

Trailing 2-1 in the fifth, Otterbein took their first lead of the game on a pair of RBIs by Clarridge and Carpenter to make the score 3-2.

But Ohio Wesleyan regained the lead in the sixth on a two-run home run. The Cardinals were able to limit the damage after Basford threw out a runner at the plate from center field to end the inning.

Otterbein only managed one hit in the last two innings en route to the loss.

Sophomore Chelsea Burns (3-4) picked up the loss for the Cardinals. She allowed four runs on eight hits while pitching a complete game.

Basford stole a pair of bases in game one to finish the day with six. She is currently the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) leader with 27 stolen bases this season. She is also only one stolen base from tieing the Otterbein single-season record set by Gwen Jeffries in 1996 (28).

Clarridge also set a record of her own in Saturday's game two win over Muskingum. With her sixth home run of the season yesterday, Clarridge collected her 11th career to become Otterbein's career leader in home runs. The previous record of 10 was set by Meredith Drexler (2000-03)

Otterbein will finish up their regular season with a pair of OAC double headers this week. The Cardinals will travel to take on Heidelberg University this Wednesday, April 25, before they return home for the season finale against Capital University Saturday, April 28.
