Match Results

WESTERVILLE, OHIO – The Cardinals advanced to the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament semifinals with a 5-0 win over Heidelberg University Tuesday, May 1, inside the Clements Recreation Center.

Otterbein University (10-9) will now play John Carroll University in the OAC Tournament semis in Mason, Ohio.

The Cardinals and Student Princes started their quarterfinal match outside but were forced indoors due to the weather.

Otterbein jumped out to a 3-0 lead after all three doubles teams won their matches.

Sophomore Julie Stroyne and junior Taylor Jordan won first doubles 8-0, while senior Cassie Brungarth and sophomore Alana Cheplowitz won second doubles 8-5. Finally, the freshman duo of Emily Harper and Kelsey Leachko completed the doubles sweep by winning the third pairing 8-1.

After their domination of doubles, the Cardinals only needed two victories from singles competition to clinch the victory.

Stroyne picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles, and about 20 minutes later freshman Emma Krummel sealed the Otterbein win with a 6-2, 6-2 win at sixth singles.

Jordan was on the verge of picking up a win at second singles. She led her opponent 6-0, 5-0 when Krummel completed her match.

The Cardinals will continue on in the OAC Tournament this Friday when they take on John Carroll. The OAC Tournamant, hosted by Ohio Northern University, will conclude this weekend in Mason with both semifinal matches and the final match.
