WESTERVILLE, OHIO – Otterbein University right fielder #
Casey Clarridge#, a senior from Marysville (Marysville High School) was named a Capital One First-Team Academic All-America selection on Tuesday morning, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Clarridge earned second-team Academic All-America honors last spring and is one of only four repeat selections on the Division III Softball Team.
Clarridge earned second-team NFCA All-Great Lakes Region and second-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors this season after she wrapped up her Otterbein career with a .410 average (59-for-144) and finished with 10 doubles, two triples, six homers, 32 RBI and 42 runs scored while starting every game.
A recent graduate in history and secondary education, Clarridge was a member of the Torch and Key honors society, Alpha Lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma honors fraternity, and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Casey also recently became a member of the Phi Alpha Theta history honors society, and was chosen to present her senior thesis at the society's regional conference.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
This marks the first year that the Academic All-America teams have been selected at the Division I, Division II, Division III and College Division levels after previously being selected at the University Division (D-I) and College Division (D-II, D-III, NAIA) levels.
