WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein University suffered a 9-4 loss to Wittenberg University Saturday afternoon in its home opener, falling 9-4 at Westerville Central High School.
Both teams now sit at 1-1 on the season, with Otterbein resuming action on Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. contest at Ohio Wesleyan University.
The Tigers led 6-1 at halftime, but Otterbein came storming out to begin the second half with three unanswered goals.
Junior Mikey O’Neal scored to begin the run at the 12:08 mark, and then O’Neal found Michael Sullivan and Brandon Stroup for goals within the next three minutes to cut the deficit to 6-4.
Wittenberg answered with a man-up goal two minutes later and registered both scores in the final period to secure the win. The Tigers had five man-up goals on the afternoon.
Wittenberg finished with a 57-20 shot advantage, including a 38-13 edge on goal. The Tigers were successful on 12 of 15 clear opportunities while Otterbein was just 12 of 24.
Senior goalie Adam Hatchard was impressive in stopping a career-high 29 shots, besting his previous mark of 19. O’Neal led the way offensively with a goal, two assists, and three ground balls.
Alex Previte and Thomas Fuss each scored four points to lead the visitors.
