ORLANDO, Fla. – The Otterbein University women’s tennis team had a dominant showing in central Florida, winning four out of its five matches to improve to 8-3 heading into conference competition.
The Cardinals picked up wins over Lawrence University (9-0), Calvin College (5-4), Oglethorpe University (5-4), and concluded the trip with a loss to Hamilton College (6-3).
Junior Julie Stroyne, the reigning player of the week in the Ohio Athletic Conference, pushed her undefeated record at first singles to 11-0 and paired with freshman Sammi Kruger to extend her undefeated mark at first doubles to 11-0 as well. Stroyne only dropped 13 games between the five matches on the trip and did not yield a set to any of her opponents in singles play.
Not to be outdone, Kruger posted a 4-1 record at the No. 2 singles position, with all her wins coming in straight sets. She was a key piece in the Cardinals success in Florida, earning wins over Lawrence, Calvin, Oglethorpe, and Ozarks at the second singles spot.
The tandem of sophomore Emma Krummel and freshman Adrien Leatherwood cleaned up the competition at second doubles. The pair went 4-1, defeating opponents by a combined score of 36-25 on the trip.
