WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Cardinal men’s lacrosse team had its three-game winning streak snapped as Kenyon College defeated the Cardinals 8-7 at Central High School Wednesday evening.

Otterbein University drops to 4-3 overall this season and will return to action Saturday at 2 p.m. with a home match against Adrian College. Meanwhile, the win improves the Lords to 5-4.

Kenyon opened the game strong and took a 4-0 lead into the second quarter before Otterbein began to chip away at the deficit.

Junior Mikey O’Neal put the Cardinals on the board with a goal early in the second frame, and senior Andrew Donatelli added another to cut the Kenyon lead to 4-2 entering into halftime.

After the Lords extended their lead to 5-2 just a couple minutes into the third quarter, Donatelli answered with a pair of goals to trim the Kenyon lead to 5-4 with 4:25 left in the third.

Kenyon added a goal less than two minutes later, but Donatelli answered again with four seconds left in the third to bring the Cardinals within one. Junior Mike Dattolo then scored with 9:28 left in regulation to tie the game at six.

The Lords, however, regained the lead less than a minute after Dattolo’s goal and added an insurance marker with 7:46 left in the game to go up 8-6.

Otterbein would not go away quietly, as Donatelli notched his fifth goal of the contest with 1:05 left in the game to pull the Cardinals back within one. However, the clock was on Kenyon’s side as it ran out the remaining time to send the Cards to their first loss since March 6.

Otterbein senior Adam Hatchard finished with seven saves in the loss as both sides took 28 shots on goal.

Otterbein recognized former starting defensman and team captain Steve Resch at halftime. Resch is missing his senior season after learning his U.S. Army Reserves unit will be deploying overseas shortly.

Saturday's game against Adrian is currently scheduled to be played at Memorial Stadium.
