WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University women’s tennis team kicked off conference play with a 6-3 win over the University of Mount Union Friday afternoon.

The win propels the Cardinals to 9-3 overall this season, 1-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). The loss drops the Purple Raiders to 1-1 in league play, 7-4 overall.

Otterbein had another strong showing from the two-time reigning OAC Player of the Week Julie Stroyne. After picking up a dominant 8-0 win at first doubles with her partner freshman Sammi Kruger, Stroyne claimed the No. 1 singles matchup in straight sets (6-0, 6-2) to improve to 12-0 this season.

Kruger was just as impressive, earning a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles to go along with her doubles win with Stroyne.

Freshman Adrian Letherwood also picked up a pair of wins for the Cardinals. She earned a 9-8 (8-6 tiebreaker) win at second doubles with her partner sophomore Emma Krummel; before taking No. 5 singles in straight sets (6-3, 6-2).

Sophomore Alana Cheplowitz earned a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles to round out Otterbein’s victorious efforts in their OAC opener.

The Cardinals return to the courts this Thursday, April 4, for a matchup with perennial OAC-power Ohio Northern University. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. in Westerville.
