Cards Tally Impressive Win Over Adrian

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein University men’s lacrosse got itself back into the win column Saturday afternoon, notching a 13-7 win over visiting Adrian College at Memorial Stadium.

The win marks Otterbein’s first victory over Adrian (5-3) since starting play in 2010, with Otterbein having lost the previous three by double digits.

Otterbein, also moving to 5-3 on the season, jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind goals from Graham Shippy and Connor Baak, with leading scorer Andrew Donatelli assisting on both.

The Cardinal defense opened strong as well, killing a penalty midway through the first quarter that saw Adrian with a two-man advantage.

The Bulldogs fought back and eventually cut the Cardinal lead to 3-2, but a pair of goals from Mike Dattolo and Jeff Reese in the closing 90 seconds of the first half gave Otterbein a 5-2 edge at intermission.

Otterbein took a 7-3 lead into the fourth, and blew the game open by scoring six of the first seven goals in the period to seize a 13-4 lead.

The Bulldogs would tally a few late-minute goals down the stretch to cap the scoring for the day.
Dattolo finished with a game-high four goals while Mikey O’Neal had a score to go along with four assists. Donatelli and Reese added three points each.

Otterbein goalie Adam Hatchard was solid all day long in the cage, coming up with timely stops throughout. He finished with 14 saves on 27 shots faced, allowing just four attempts to sneak by him.

Drake Dailey-Chwalibog had three goals to lead the way for Adrian, which held a slim 38-34 shot advantage over Otterbein.

The Cards were succuessful on 18 of 25 clear attempts and won 12 of the 22 faceoffs.

Otterbein plays its next three games away from home, beginning with a 7 p.m. outing next Wednesday at the College of Wooster. Otterbein defeated the Scots, 11-4, last season in Westerville for its first-ever win over a North Coast Athletic Conference opponents.
