DELAWARE, Ohio – The Cardinal men’s lacrosse team fell victim at Ohio Wesleyan University Wednesday evening, falling 13-3 at Selby Stadium.
Otterbein University, now 1-2 this season, will return to action next Wednesday with a 7 p.m. road contest at Mount St. Joseph. Ohio Wesleyan improves to 4-1 with the win.
The Bishops posted three-straight goals to open the action, but Otterbein hung tough with a Jeff Reese goal at the 5:06 mark and a man-up score from Andrew Donatelli less than a minute later.
The score remained the same until the midway point of the second period, when Ohio Wesleyan rattled off four consecutive goals to take a 7-2 halftime advantage.
OWU later pushed the lead to 12-2, all part of a 9-0 spurt, to take a double-digit lead into the final quarter. Otterbein’s Mike Dattolo scored off an assist from Michael Sullivan with 8:56 remaining for the Cardinals’ final goal of the game.
The Bishops outshot Otterbein 50-15 and caused the Cardinals to commit 24 turnovers on the night. Wesleyan was 17 of 20 on clear attempts while Otterbein was just 13 of 24.
Both teams won 10 faceoff opportunities, but the Bishops managed to pick up nearly twice as many ground balls at 30-16.
Specner Schnell scored a game-high four goals for the hosts, while Otterbein goalie Adam Hatchard finished with 14 saves.
