COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Cardinal women’s tennis team wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament with a 6-3 win over Baldwin Wallace University Friday, and a 9-0 win over Capital University Saturday.
The wins improve Otterbein University to 8-1 in OAC play, 16-4 overall, and clinch the second seed in the conference tournament. The Cardinals will now host Marietta College in the conference quarterfinals on Wednesday, May 1, at 3:30 p.m.
Otterbein fell behind 2-1 after doubles play at BW, but recovered to win the top five singles pairings and win the match 6-3.
Sophomore Emma Krummel and freshman Adrien Leatherwood spurred the Cards to victory with a 9-8 (12-10) win at No. 2 doubles. Both Krummel and Leatherwood went on to claim their singles matchups as well to lead Otterbein to the victory.
The Cardinals had a quick turnaround with a road match at Capital, but did not have any post-victory hangover in their 9-0 shutout win.
Otterbein went on to win all six singles matches in straight sets after they won all three doubles matchups against the Crusaders.
The Cardinals will begin the road to an OAC title when they host Marietta Wednesday, May 1. The quarterfinal match is set to start at 3:30 p.m.
