ALBION, Mich. – Otterbein University used a 7-0 run in the middle of the game to open a lead and ultimately hold off Albion College, 14-12, for a key road win Monday evening.

The Cardinals, now 4-0 all-time against Albion, improve to 7-4 this spring and will have four days off before hosting Whittier College (Calif.) Saturday afternoon, 1 p.m., at Memorial Stadium.

Albion (6-4) erased an early Cardinal lead to tie the game at 4-4, but Otterbein jumped back in front and used two unassisted goals from Mike Dattolo and Brandon Stroup late in the second quarter to grab a 10-7 halftime advantage.

The Cardinals extended the gap to 14-7 near the end of the third period, but the Britons made things interesting with a late third-quarter goal and two more by the 9:21 mark in the fourth.

Otterbein held its ground as the contest would see no scoring over the next seven minutes.

Albion found another two scores before the final horn sounded, but the Cardinals did enough to walk away with the win.

The Cards finished with a 42-33 shot advantage and were able to win 17 of the 30 faceoff opportunities. The Otterbein defense limited Albion to just 11 of 20 on clear attempt.

Andrew Donatelli led the Cardinal attack with four goals, running his season total to 35. His 41 total points are just 12 shy of Mikey O’Neal’s single-season record.

Dattolo, Pat Teynor, and Graham Shippy all netted two goals apiece while O’Neal was impressive with one score and a season-high five assists. O’Neal, who ranked 30th-nationally last season in assists, has 24 helpers so far this spring.

Goalie Adam Hatchard stopped eight shots between the pipes while Donatellie corralled a team-high four ground balls.

Jamie Kehoe led the Albion offense with four scores wile Dan Genord and Joel Hedemark each scored three times.
