Men's Lacrosse Slips Up at Oberlin

Box Score

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Cardinal men’s lacrosse team suffered a tough loss to conclude its regular season schedule Wednesday evening, finishing on the wrong end of a 7-4 result at Oberlin College.

The loss snaps a seven-game winning streak for Otterbein University, which sits 12-5 overall and will now wait until Sunday evening to learn whether or not it receives a Pool-B at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The contest featured a game of runs, with Oberlin hopping out to a quick 3-0 lead before the Cardinals countered with a 4-0 run to end the first half.

The third quarter saw no scoring until 12 seconds remaining when Oberlin’s Connor Jackson netted a man-up goal, and the Yeomen managed two more scores early in the fourth to open a 6-4 advantage.

Otterbein saw a pair of opportunities over the next minute and a half, but two Mike Dattolo shots were saved by Oberlin goalie Erickson Andrews.

Junior Pat Teynor saw his attempt saved by Andrews minutes later, and the Yeomen eventually added an insurance goal in the closing minutes to cap the scoring.

Otterbein outshot Oberlin, 31-29, but was unable to offset the 18 saves from Andrews in the Oberlin goal. Both teams were near even on faceoffs and turnovers, but the Cardinals committed nine penalties in the game compared to Oberlin’s six.

Senior Andrew Donatelli scored three times on the night for Otterbein while junior Mikey O’Neal assisted on three of Otterbein’s six goals. O’Neal and Donatelli registered 63 and 59 points, respectively, so far this season.

Nick Lobley scored a game-high three goals for the hosts while also adding an assist.
