WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University women’s tennis team advanced to the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) semifinals with a 5-0 win over Marietta College at the Richard A. Tennis Center Wednesday afternoon.
The Cardinals (17-4) advance to take on the University of Mount Union on Friday, May 3, for a bid in the conference championship match. Meanwhile, the Pioneers end their season 2-14 overall.
Otterbein took a commanding 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles competition. The Cardinals decisively won the three matches by a combined mark of 24-4.
The Cardinals only needed two wins in singles competition to clinch the victory and received the first two decisions. Reigning conference player of the week junior Julie Stroyne claimed No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0 and freshman Adrien Leatherwood clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles.
Otterbein is back in action this Friday, May 3, with a 4:30 p.m. semifinal match with Mount Union. The
OAC semifinals and championships will be played at the Lindner Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.
