MASON, Ohio – The Otterbein University women’s tennis team moved on to the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Championship match with a 5-3 win over the University of Mount Union Friday afternoon at the Lindner Tennis Center.

The Cardinals (18-4) advance to take on Ohio Northern University for the OAC title Saturday, May 4, at 2 p.m.

Otterbein fell behind early, winning only No. 1 doubles before heading into singles competition.

The No. 1 doubles pairing of junior Julie Stroyne and freshman Sammi Kruger took care of business, winning 8-2 to notch the Cardinals lone win at doubles.

However, Otterbein went on to handle Mount Union in singles play. After Stroyne won No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0 to even the score at 2-2, Kruger and sophomore Kelsey Leachko both won their matches in straight sets to move the Cardinals one win away from a shot at the OAC title.

The berth was clinched when freshman Adrien Leatherwood claimed No. 5 singles 6-2, 2-6, 6-2, giving Otterbein the victory.

The Cardinals will compete for the OAC Championship tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. The Polar Bears picked up a 6-3 win earlier this season over the Cardinals. Stroyne and Kruger were responsible for all three Otterbein points in the match, as they teamed to win No. 1 doubles and each won in singles.
