Men's Soccer Uses Second-Half Rally to Defeat Earlham

Box Score
WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein University men's soccer tallied a come-from-behind victory Saturday afternoon to close out its non-conference slate, defeating Earlham College 3-2 at Clements Field.

Otterbein (5-4) got on the scoreboard first, as senior Jake Keller converted a header off a corner kick from Josh Kellner just 8:20 into the match. Earlham, however, drew even less than 10 minutes later when Felicien Muyumba won a loose ball in the box and finished lower left.

Cardinal goalkeeper Kyle Ripma stopped a Quaker penalty kick from Tamru Tayre in the 35th minute, but Tayre charged in to score the deflection and put the visitors ahead by halftime.

Otterbein junior Jared Pulliam knotted the match again shortly after the break, dribbling through the Earlham defense and scoring lower left to tie the score, 2-2.

Freshman Ross Pfeil broke free up the left side for the Cardinals in the 65th minute, and was subsequently taken down from behind in the box by a Quaker defender. Senior Evan Fallon stepped up to bury the awarded penalty kick and give the Tan and Cardinal the decisive score.

Earlham appeared to have gotten on the scoreboard with 10 minutes remaining after a corner-kick conversion, but a foul was called for handling and the score remained 3-2. Otterbein held on the rest of the way to preserve the win and drop Earham to 4-6 this season.

Otterbein finished with a 22-10 shot advantage, taking 13 corner kicks compared to Earlham's four. Both sides committed 11 fouls in a hard-fought and intense battle throughout.

Aaron Falsetto had eight saves in the visitors net while Ripma came up with four for Otterbein.

The Cards resume play next weekend, traveling to Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday to begin Ohio Athletic Conference play. Starting time is set for 7 p.m.
