DELAWARE, Ohio—The Otterbein University women's tennis team improved to 4-1 in match play with a solid 7-2 victory over Ohio Wesleyan University Sunday in Delaware.

"All the players had a chance to show their talent today," said head coach Pat Anderson. "Julie (senior No. 1 singles player Julie Stroyne) was out, taking a study course for her nursing boards, so the team picked it up."

The Cardinals won second and third doubles, and took five of seven singles matches.

"Kruger (sophomore No. 2 singles Sammi Kruger) took the No. 1 spot and played a very aggressive game, serving and playing the net to win, 6-1, 6-1." Anderson said.

Otterbein swept third through sixth singles.

Sophomore Adrien Leatherwood won third singles, 6-3, 6-0, junior Emily Harper took fourth singles, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1, and freshman Rylie Markle shut out her opponent in fifth singles, 6-0, 6-0. Senior Alana Cheplowitz won sixth singles, 8-0, in a pro set since the match had already been determined.

"Leatherwood mixed her game up well and kept her opponent guessing the whole match," Anderson said. "Harper started out a little shaky after a loss at No. 1 doubles—she took the first set in a tie-breaker—but came on strong in the second set."

Junior Emma Krummel and Leatherwood teamed up to win second doubles, 8-1, and sophomore Megan Locke and freshman Kerigan McNamara took third doubles, 8-5.

"I thought the team did a good job of stepping up," Anderson said. "They played aggressively and their serves and returns continued to improve."

Otterbein is scheduled to face Oberlin College next, beginning at 3 p.m. Friday.
