Wittenberg Rallies to Defeat Otterbein in Springfield

Box Score
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Otterbein University opened strong before ultimately falling short in an 11-8 road loss at Wittenberg University Tuesday afternoon in men's lacrosse action.

The Cardinals (3-2) came out firing, watching sophomore Carlos Salazar win the first three faceoffs and eventually building a 3-1 lead after one quarter. The host Tigers would settle in from there by finishing the half on a 4-0 run, including three-straight goals from Jack Bornhofen, to take a slim 5-4 advantage into halftime.

Wittenberg seized control for good in the third, out-scoring Otterbein 4-0 in the frame to carry a 9-4 margin into the final period.

Otterbein battled until the end, tallying four of the game's last five goals (two man-up) before the final horn sounded.

Cardinal senior Mike Dattolo had his best offensive game of the season, netting a game-best four goals on just seven shot attempts. Freshman Zac Stowe scored twice to compliment the offensive unit while Mikey O'Neal handed out two assists.

Bornhofen and Andrew Fuss each scored three times to led Wittenberg, which got 15 saves from goalie Jay Dolan. James Gundling had 11 on the Otterbein end, marking his third double-digit game so far this season.

Otterbein will return to action Friday afternoon, traveling out west to Colorado College for a 12 p.m. matchup local time.
