WESTERVILLE, Ohio—The Otterbein University women's tennis team, a strong contender in the race for the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) title, kicked off OAC play in strong fashion, turning back crosstown-rival Capital University, 9-0, Saturday in the Clements Recreation Center.

"After a great run in Florida, the Lady Cardinals took to the court to face rival Capital and gave up only eight games on nine courts of play," said head coach Pat Anderson. "Everyone played solid today. I was very pleased with the level of play I saw."

With the win, Otterbein's sixth straight, the Cardinals improved to 10-2 overall and 1-0 in the OAC. The Crusaders, winless on the season, fell to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Julie Stroyne, who played just one match in Florida due to injury, returned in fine form, teaming up with Sammi Kruger to win first doubles by an 8-1 score. Emma Krummel and Adrien Leatherwood, at No. 2 doubles, and Rylie Markle and Kelsey Leachko, at third doubles, cruised to back-to-back 8-0 victories.

Otterbein kept up the pace in singles play, giving up just seven games over the course of six matches.

"I was especially impressed with the singles today," Anderson said. "There was a lot of net action on our part. The players constructed their points very well."

Stroyne led the way, easily dispatching her Capital opponent, 6-0, 6-0, at first singles.

"Julie, back on the courts after time off for tendonitis, didn't miss a beat," Anderson said.

Markle, at fifth singles, also posted a 6-0, 6-0 shutout. The freshman has won eight straight matches in singles competition.

Rounding out singles play, Kruger took second singles, 6-2, 6-0; Krummel won third singles, 6-0, 6-2; Leatherwood captured fourth singles, 6-1, 6-0; and Emily Harper took sixth singles, 6-1, 6-1.

Otterbein's next scheduled match is at Marietta College Wednesday, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
