WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Cardinal baseball team tallied another doubleheader split Saturday afternoon at Fishbaugh Field, topping John Carroll University 5-1 before suffering a 7-4 loss in the second outing.

Otterbein moves to 16-10 on the season and 4-6 in Ohio Athletic Conference play as a result, while the Blue Streaks now stand 16-8 overall and 8-2 against the rest of the league.

Otterbein received a stellar pitching effort from ace Adam Collier in game one, getting eight strong innings from the sophomore right-hander en route to the win. He surrendered just five hits and two walks.

The Cardinals used a sac-fly RBI from Jake Simmerman to get on the board in the first, and doubled the margin in the second inning on an RBI-double down the left-field line from catcher Mark Walton.

Junior Billy Harkenrider singled up the middle to extend the Otterbein lead to 3-0 in the third frame, and Otterbein later took a 5-1 lead into the ninth as sophomore Terrell Dorsey finished the job.

Four Cardinals tallied multi-hit games, led by a 3 for 5 effort from leadoff hitter and second baseman Taylor Hutchison.

The Blue Streaks took the early advantage in game two, scoring three times in the third inning before Otterbein responded. The Cardinals plated two of their own in the bottom of the frame, getting an RBI-single from Harkenrider before freshman Peyton Ross scored on a wild pitch.

The score remained the same until the seventh inning when the JCU bats got hot, eventually driving in four runs to open a 7-2 cushion. Another RBI from Harkenrider, followed by a sac-fly from freshman Caleb Norton, cut the lead to 7-4 in the next Cardinal at-bat, but the offense would unfortunately stall from there.

Harkenrider, Hutchison and sophomore Tyler Kent each registered two hits in the contest.

Otterbein returns to action Tuesday afternoon, traveling to Wilmington College for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
