Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Cardinal softball team dropped a road doubleheader Saturday afternoon, coming up short with losses by scores of 3-1 and 10-4 at John Carroll University.

Otterbein falls to 11-14 on the season and 3-9 within the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) as a result, watching the Blue Streaks move to 13-11 overall, 7-5 against league schools, in the process.

All of the scoring in game one came during the first inning, starting with an RBI-single down the right-field line from Otterbein senior Rachael Puthoff, helping bring home classmate Laura Basford.

John Carroll answered in the bottom of the frame, getting the first two batters on base via walks before a three-run homer from Morgan Robinson put the host team ahead for good.

The matchup then became a pitcher's duel between senior Kelsey Long and JCU's Rachel Byrnes, who would not allow a run over the ensuing five and a half innings. The Blue Streaks managed just two hits in the entire game but were able to prevail.

Otterbein took another early advantage in game two, scoring twice after a John Carroll fielding error and a successful double steal involving Puthoff and freshman Lizzy Snodgrass.

John Carroll caught fire in the bottom of the second, getting a leadoff home run from cleanup hitter Carly Simecek en route to a six-run inning. The Cardinals later used RBI from Puthoff and Snodgrass in the fifth to cut the deficit in half, but JCU a eventually able to put the game away with four insurance runs in the sixth.

Senior Laura Basford and freshman Molly Riggs each hit 2 for 4 in the second game while Puthoff finished 1 for 3 with a RBI and run scored.
