Men's Lacrosse Pulls Away Late in Win at Baldwin Wallace

Box Score
WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Cardinal men's lacrosse team moved to 2-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play Wednesday evening, walking away from Berea, Ohio with a decisive 12-5 win at Baldwin Wallace University.

The Cardinals, moving to 7-4 on the season after a fourth-straight win, will stay on the road to finish out the week with a Saturday afternoon matchup at Capital University. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Both Otterbein and BW got off to slow starts offensively, with no scoring taking place over the first 11 minutes of action. The Cardinals eventually assumed an early lead, getting back-to-back goals from seniors Mike Dattolo and Jeff Reese near the end of the first period before taking a 4-1 lead into halftime.

A goal from Otterbein's Brandon Stroup gave the team a 5-1 advantage early in the third frame, but the host Yellow Jackets responded with three unanswered goals to get back within a possession, 5-4, with 2:38 remaining in the period.

The Cards answered back, receiving a goal courtesy of Robbie Guiliano just 15 seconds after the previous BW goal to cap the scoring in the third.

Otterbein put the game away for good in the fourth, watching Guiliano score again before four more Cardinal goals widened the gap permanently.

Seniors Pat Teynor, three goals, and Mikey O'Neal, three assists, led the offensive charge on the night while defenseman Adam Norris was credited with three caused turnovers. Freshman goalie James Gundling made six saves before giving way to classmate John Brandon, who stopped another four Yellow Jacket shots over the final 4:37.

Otterbein's man-down unit limited Baldwin Wallace to a 1-of-6 output on extra-man opportunities while faceoff specialist Carlos Salazar was rock solid yet again, winning a staggering 17 of his 19 attempts at the X.
