Match ResultsALLIANCE, Ohio—The Otterbein University women's tennis team nailed down at least a share of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) regular-season title and claimed the No. 1 seed in the post-season conference tournament, defeating the University of Mount Union, 8-1, Tuesday in Alliance.
The Cardinals, 16-2 overall, moved to a perfect 7-0 in the OAC and hold a one-game lead over Ohio Northern University, who sits second in the OAC at 6-1. Otterbein is scheduled to conclude the regular season Saturday, hosting OAC opponent Heidelberg University, beginning at 1 p.m. It will be Senior Day.
Otterbein won on five courts in singles play, and three courts in doubles action in defeating Mount Union, who came into the match trailing Otterbein by just one game in the conference standings. The Purple Raiders dropped to 12-2 overall and 6-2 in the OAC. The red-hot Cardinals have won 12 straight matches.
The team opened strong in Alliance, taking five courts in singles play to win the match early.
Three-time OAC player of the year Julie Stroyne took first singles, 6-1, 6-4, and Sammi Kruger won second singles, 6-3, 7-6.
Adrien Leatherwood, Emily Harper and Rylie Markle captured courts 4-6, and the Cardinals led, 5-1, heading into doubles.
The Cardinals swept doubles, winning each court by identical 8-3 scores.
Otterbein has a chance to win the OAC regular-season title outright with a win over Heidelberg Saturday.
