TIFFIN, Ohio – The Otterbein University baseball team tallied another Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) doubleheader split on Saturday, defeating seventh-ranked Heidelberg University, 19-13, in game one before an 8-7 loss in the second outing.

The second-game loss eliminates the Cardinals from contending for a spot in the upcoming four-team OAC Tournament, dropping the team to 22-13 on the year and 7-9 within league play.

The Otterbein bats caught fire early in game one, scoring 11 runs in the second inning after Heidelberg, ranked No. 7 in the latest D3baseball.com poll, had jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first. Included in the rally was a two-RBI double from Mark Walton, a three-RBI double from Jake Simmerman and a three-run shot to right-center from Brock Frentzel.

The Student Princes scored two runs in the bottom of the third, but the Cardinals answered with a four-run inning in the fifth en route to the high-scoring win.

Simmerman hit 4 for 6 with four RBI in the game while Walton, Frentzel and J.C. Gibson all tallied multi-hit performance as well. Sophomore Adam Collier improved to 3-3 on the bump before classmate Terrell Dorsey picked up his first save of the season.

Otterbein grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the second affair, but Heidelberg settled in and tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the second. The Cards tied the see-saw battle in the fifth when freshman Zach San Roman roped an RBI-double before later scoring himself on a passed ball.

Otterbein scored another two runs in the seventh to draw even again, this time at 7-7, before the Berg' plated the eventual difference-making run in the bottom of the frame with a fielder's-choice RBI.

San Roman went 3 for 4 offensively in the contest while Simmerman and Frentzel each hit safely twice.

Otterbein will return to action Tuesday afternoon, hosting Penn State-Behrend at 4 p.m.
