Match ResultsWESTERVILLE, Ohio—The Otterbein University women's tennis team posted its fourth-straight shutout, this time over Baldwin Wallace University, 9-0, Saturday in the Clements Recreation Center.
With the win, Otterbein's eighth straight, the Cardinals improved to 12-2 overall and remain unbeaten in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with a 3-0 record, setting up a showdown with Ohio Northern University, 11-2 overall and also 3-0 in the OAC, Tuesday in Ada. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
Otterbein got off to a strong start against the Yellow Jackets, winning all three doubles matches.
Rylie Markle and Kelsey Leachko breezed through third doubles, winning 8-1. Julie Stroyne and Sammi Kruger had little trouble at first doubles, taking the match, 8-2. Emma Krummel and Adrien Leatherwood, at second doubles, had the most difficult challenge, but pulled off the 8-6 victory.
"Doubles continues to improve and the aggressive play at the net seems to be the key to success," said head coach Pat Anderson. "Our girls are volleying well and hitting their overheads with great placement.
"If there was anything that was a great surprise," Anderson continued, "it was how strong the singles played. They dropped only 14 games on six courts."
Stroyne, at first singles, and Leatherwood, at fourth singles, lost just one game each. Emily Harper, at fifth singles, and Markle, at sixth singles, dropped just two games each.
Kruger took second singles, 6-2, 6-2, and Krummel won third singles, 6-3, 6-1.
With the loss, Baldwin Wallace dropped to 6-10 overall and 2-2 in the OAC.
