Second-Half Goals Lift Men's Soccer to Win at Oberlin

Box Score

OBERLIN, Ohio – Otterbein University men's soccer tallied a third-straight road win Saturday afternoon, scoring two second-half goals en route to a 3-1 win at Oberlin College.

The Cardinals, in the middle of a seven-game road stretch, move to 4-3 on the season after a third-consecutive win over a school from the highly competitive North Coast Athletic Conference. Otterbein also recently defeated nationally-ranked Ohio Wesleyan University and Hiram College.

The Cards scored almost as soon as the contest began, getting a goal from leading-scorer Jared Pulliam just 37 seconds in as he converted a corner-kick header from classmate Conor Holland.

Oberlin evened the matchup midway through the opening period, seeing John Ingham dribble and shoot off a short corner at the 17:59 mark. The contest would eventually head to intermission locked at 1-1.

Holland would help set up a pair of scores in the second half for Otterbein, first sending a ball into the box where 6'6" freshman Gavin Koerner was there to head in eventual game-winner, in the 66th minute, for the first goal of his young career.

Otterbein tallied an insurance goal just five minutes later when Holland found Reid Wolfe for yet another header off a corner-kick attempt.  The Cardinals have now recorded eight second-half goals in their last three outings.

The back and forth match featured a combined 35 shots and 13 corner kicks. Both Mack Stamper, Otterbein, and Oidie Kuijpers, Oberlin, came up with five saves in their respective goals.

The Cardinals continue their road stretch this coming Wednesday evening, heading to Cincinnati for a 7:30 p.m. outing at The College of Mount St. Joseph.
