Box Score 2 WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Cardinal softball team dropped a pair of games during its 2015 home opener Wednesday afternoon, falling to Kenyon College by scores of 6-2 and 10-9.
Otterbein, now 3-9 on the season as a whole, will remain at home through the end of the week and open conference play against Mount Union on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Kenyon (15-3) used the long ball to jump ahead early in game one, launching three home runs in the second inning to seize a 6-0 lead. The Cards plated one run in the fourth and another in the fifth, but it wouldn't be enough as the Ladies held on for victory.
Tayler Sbrocco, Bailey McElwain and Megan Garner all tallied two hits each for the Cardinals in game one.
Kenyon jumped all over Otterbein to begin game two, scoring five in the second and another five runs in the third to open a double-digit advantage.
The Cardinals rallied from that point, initially cutting the lead to 10-3 before erupting with six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Unfortunately, the game would be called due to darkness as Kenyon escaped with the narrow decision.
Pitcher Rachael Owens, 2 for 2, and outfielder Molly Riggs, 3 for 3, were both perfect at the dish for the Otterbein offense. Both players drove in a pair of runs while Riggs scored two more.
