Match ResultsWESTERVILLE, Ohio—The Otterbein University women's tennis team opened Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with a 5-4 loss to the University of Mount Union Saturday in Westerville.

The Cardinals, defending OAC champions, nearly swept doubles, winning second and third doubles, and losing first doubles in a tie-breaker.

"All doubles teams played solid tennis," said Otterbein head coach Pat Anderson. "It was singles that got us."

Emma Krummel and Adrien Leatherwood won No. 2 doubles, 8-3, while Emily Quill and freshman Sophia Navas-Davis captured No. 3 doubles, 8-4. Sammi Kruger and freshman Alyx Lynham lost in a tie-breaker, 7-3, at first doubles.

Leatherwood, Otterbein's only repeat winner, won fourth singles, 6-3, 6-4. Megan Locke won at sixth singles, 6-1, 6-2.

With the win, Mount Union improved to 7-3 while Otterbein dropped to 5-4.

"The Lady Cardinals played tight today and Mount Union took advantage of that," Anderson said. "Their job is to bounce back and be ready for their next opponent."

Otterbein is scheduled to get back on the court Saturday, traveling to crosstown-rival Capital University for a match beginning at 3:30 p.m.
