Cards Split Non-Conference Twinbill with Ohio Wesleyan

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University softball team tallied a doubleheader split Wednesday afternoon, beating Ohio Wesleyan 12-4 in the first outing before a 13-5 loss in game two.

The contest, originally scheduled to be played at Ohio Wesleyan, was moved to Otterbein's field in the morning as a result of wet conditions at OWU.

Otterbein took an early 2-0 lead in game one after RBI from Bailey McElwain and Rachael Owens, and extended the margin in the third inning after a three-run homer from Megan Garner. The Cards added two more runs before the inning ended and ultimately played its way to victory.

Rachael Owens picked up her third win of the season in the circle, allowing just four runs over her seven innings of work. She helped herself at the plate, going a perfect 3 for 3 with three RBI. McElwain went 4 for 5 with three runs scored and two RBI.

Owens put her team ahead in game two with a three-run bomb in the first inning, but the Bishops answered with six runs in their first at-bat to jump in control. OWU would add three more in the second and eventually put the game away with a homer in the fifth inning, good enough for a run-rule victory.

Owens went 3 for 3 again to turn in a perfect day at the dish, while Garner and Chey Rowe also tallied multi-hit games in the nightcap. Rowe had a nice bunt single in the third frame that scored Garner.

Otterbein will finish out the week on the road, returning to conference play with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at cross-town Capital University.
