Box Score 4 WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University softball team recently moved to an even 3-3 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play, earning a doubleheader split at cross-town Capital University on Monday before a home sweep over Marietta College Tuesday afternoon.
The Cardinals, moving to 7-13 overall this season with the results, will have an off-day Wednesday before getting right back to work Thursday against the College of Mount St. Joseph. Otterbein will host the Lions at Rike Field in a make-up date from a rescheduled contest.
Otterbein posted an 8-3 victory in game on at Capital to begin the week, Â getting an RBI-single from Maddie Flasco followed by a two-run homer from Bailey McElwain in the first inning. The Cards padded their lead in the fourth, using a 2-RBI single from Megan Garner to kick off a four-run inning.
The Crusaders (12-7, 3-1 OAC) scored twice in the bottom of the inning, but Otterbein's previous damage would be too much as pitcher Rachael Owens earned the complete-game victory on the hill. She allowed just two earned runs over the seven innings, striking out four and walking two.
Otterbein suffered a 13-0 loss in the second affair, but quickly bounced back on Tuesday with a low-scoring, 2-1, triumph over Marietta in game one of a twinbill.
Owens turned in perhaps her best outing of the year in the circle, surrendering just the one run, on five hits, to spearhead he Cardinal victory. Otterbein scored its only two runs in the second inning, parlaying a double from Kennedy Daly into a pair of runs after infield hits from Courtney Hanna and Flasco.
Otterbein opened a 4-0 lead over the Pioneers in the second matchup, only to see the visitors string together a six-run inning and take the lead midway through. The Cards answered in the bottom of the fourth, plating five run to reassume the advantage. Highlighting the inning was a 2-RBI double down the left-field line from McElwain, followed by another 2-RBI double from Garner.
Marietta made things interesting late, scoring twice in the ninth and getting runners on the corners before a called strikeout would end the game.
Owens tossed the final 3.2 innings in relief to earn another win on the day, while also going 2 for 3 at the plate and driving in a pair of runs.Â
