CLERMONT, Fla. – The Cardinal softball team finished off its annual spring break trip with a couple wins, splitting four outings spanning Wednesday and Thursday at the Dot Richardson Games.

Otterbein (2-6) began Wednesday's action with a disappointing 7-5 loss to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The Cards tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth inning, and went into the final frame locked at 5-5 after an RBI from Tayler Sbrocco.

Unfortunately, RHIT emerged victorious by manufacturing two runs in the top of the inning and holding Otterbein in the bottom half. Freshman Bailey McElwain had a nice day at the plate, hitting 3 for 4.

Otterbein quickly bounced back to get its first win of the season against Saint Vincent, exploding for seven runs in the fifth inning to break open a 5-5 ball game. Freshman Chloe Biskner tallied the critical swing in the sequence, roping a two-out grand slam as the Cardinals were clicking on all cylinders.

Saint Vincent posted three runs in the bottom of the inning, but it wouldn't be nearly enough as the Cards finally got themselves into the win column. Four players had multi-hit games for Otterbein, led by a 3 for 4 outing from Sbrocco.

Kate Lewis had a memorable pitching performance in her Otterbein debut, allowing just one earned run and striking out six batters in 5.2 innings of relief to notch her first career win.

The Cardinals made it two in a row to begin Thursday's action, dominating Finlandia and running away with a 10-0 run-rule victory. Rachael Owens earned the win in the circle, tossing four innings of shut-out ball and scattering just three hits.

McElwain hit a perfect 3 for 3 at the dish while Megan Garner drove in five runs, three coming from a home run in the third.

Otterbein nearly made it three in a row to finish the trip, breaking a 4-4 tie with Saint Benedict in the fifth inning after RBI from Savannah Sarkine and Maddie Flasco. Unfortunately, the Blazers scored once in the fifth and then again in their final at-bat to force extra innings. Benedict almost won the game in the seventh, but the Cards came up with a nice double play to get out of the jam.

Saint Benedecit ultimately prevailed, using an Otterbein error to score the winning run in the eighth. McElwain, Owens and sophomore Molly Riggs all had two hits in the contest.

Otterbein will have a full week off before returning to action with a doubleheader at Bluffton University. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
