Baseball Drops Both Games at John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Otterbein baseball team finally got back on the diamond to resume play Saturday afternoon, but unfortunately suffered a disappointing sweep at the hands of host John Carroll in league play.

The Cardinals, now 15-7 on the year and an even 4-4 within the Ohio Athletic Conference(OAC), will get back to work Sunday afternoon with another road doubleheader, this time at 25th-ranked Ohio Northern. The games were pushed from Wednesday after inclement weather prevented them from being played during the week.

John Carroll (18-5, 7-1 OAC) plated two early runs to begin the day, but Otterbein answered with a run in the third inning after an RBI-double from lead-off man Taylor Hutchison. The Blue Streaks only led 7-5 midway through the seventh inning, but found some breathing room with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame, followed by another three in their next at-bat, en route to a 12-5 victory.

Hutchison led the Cardinal offense with a 3 for 5 day at the dish, while Tyler Kent and Jake Simmerman each tallied two hits.

John Carroll carried the momentum over to the second affair, bringing home five runs in the first inning and never looking back to post an 11-1 win. Otterbein's lone run of the matchup came in the third inning when Hutchison singled up the middle to bring home Brock Frentzel.

John Carroll left 13 runners on base, but received multi-hit games from five different players to give more than enough run support for starting pitcher Drew Doring, who struck out 14 batters over eight innings on the bump.
