WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Otterbein softball team walked away with a doubleheader split Tuesday afternoon at Wilmington College, suffering an 8-7 loss in the first contest before rallying for a 7-4 triumph in game two.

Otterbein, now 12-16 on the season and 8-6 within Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play, appeared to be in line for a game-one victory after carrying a 7-4 lead into the final half inning. Wilmington had other plans and embarked on a four-run rally, capped by back-to-back doubles to post a walk-off win.

Molly Riggs, Maddie Flasco and Courtney Hanna all tallied two hits in the first contest, with Hanna also crossing the plate twice. Pitcher Rachael Owens took the loss despite just four earned runs and five strikeouts over the six-plus innings.

Otterbein quickly regrouped for game two, using early RBIs from Bailey McElwain and Rachael Owens to take a 2-0 lead. The Cards extended that margin to 6-0 with a four-run third inning, but the Quakers (6-26, 2-12 OAC) got on the board with for runs of their own in the ensuing at-bat.

Kate Lewis gave Otterbein an insurance run in the following inning with an RBI-single to right field, and tossed the final 4.1 innings in relief to improve to 3-0 on the season. She allowed just one hit, struck out five batters and held the hosts scoreless during the stretch.

Otterbein is scheduled to be back in action Saturday afternoon, hosting Muskingum University in a key OAC matchup at 1 p.m. Both teams are currently tied amongst the league standings.
