Cards Finish Regular-Season with 13-7 Win at Wilmington

Box Score

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Otterbein men's lacrosse team concluded its regular-season slate with a nice road win Wednesday evening, walking away with a 13-7 victory at Wilmington College.

The Cardinals, sitting at 11-4 overall and 5-1 within the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) will now do a bit of scoreboard this weekend to learn its seed position for the upcoming our-team league tournament.

Otterbein will be the second seed if Capital defeats Baldwin Wallace. If Baldwin Wallace were to win, however, all three teams would finish the conference schedule at 5-1 and enter a three-way tiebreaker of goal differential.  The Cards could end up as the top seed, or even the third seed, depending on how many goals BW would win by.

Otterbein jumped on Wilmington (9-5, 1-4 OAC) from the start, grabbing a 7-2 lead after the first quarter before heading into halftime ahead 9-3. The Cards put the game away in the third, scoring three of the initial four goals in the period and never looking back.

Senior Mike Sullivan led the attack with a game-best five goals, while classmate Brandon Stroup chipped in one goal and four assists. Connor Dziewit and Connor Baak each scored three times while Marcus Willis set up three different goals.

Face-off specialist Carlos Salazar captured 16 of his 22 chances in the middle, moving his season mark to over 66 percent in the process. Face-off middie Derek Hohn snagged four ground balls while Salzar had a game-high seven.

Otterbein Goalie James Gundling allowed just three goals in the first half before giving way to back-ups John Brandon and Matt Niemi. The Cardinals were a perfect 25 of 25 on clear attempts.

Wilmington got three goals and one assists from Jalen Jackson.
