Cardinals Swept at Heidelberg to Conclude Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Otterbein softball team concluded its 2015 season Sunday afternoon, dropping both games in a doubleheader at 24th-ranked Heidelberg University by scores of 8-1 and 7-3.

The Cardinals, which entered the day in a three-way tie for the fourth and final position in the upcoming Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament, miss out on any potential postseason while the Student Princes (27-7, 16-2 OAC) secure the league's regular-season title.

Otterbein (14-20, 9-9 OAC) couldn't get much across offensively in the first game, trailing 4-0 midway through before ultimately getting on the board in the fifth after an infield single from lead-off hitter Molly Riggs. She finished a perfect 3 for 3 in the contest and ends the year with an impressive .418 batting average.

Freshman Megan Garner hit 2 for 3 in the cleanup spot, but Heidelberg managed 13 hits throughout as ace pitcher Paige Atterholt improved to 11-2 in the circle.

The Cards grabbed a 2-0 lead early in the second game after RBI-doubles from Hannah Smith and Courtney Hanna, but the Berg' responded with five runs in the third inning to jump ahead and never look back.

Smith drove in a run during the top of the sixth frame, but that would be all as Heidelberg won its seventh-straight conference game.
